The Artist in Residence (AiR) program at Casa in Lethbridge, Alberta, offers a supportive and community-based atmosphere for artists from various disciplines and experience levels, including recent undergraduates. The program includes workshops, installations, open houses, and artist talks, fostering community engagement and new perspectives. Artists are provided with space free of charge and are encouraged to seek funding for travel, lodging, and per diems from granting agencies. Casa assists with public engagement opportunities and supports successful candidates in their grant applications. The application deadlines are January 15 and June 15 each year, with residencies scheduled between June and December or January and June of the following year. Casa is managed by the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge, a non-profit arts organization and registered charity.

SIM Residency (SÍM Residency)

Reykjavik, Iceland

The SÍM Residency, an initiative of SÍM - The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, stands as a beacon of artistic growth and cultural immersion in Reykjavik, Iceland. Founded by SÍM, Iceland's largest organization for professional artists, the residency upholds the association’s commitment to enhancing artists' livelihoods and rights. Evolving from a modest apartment to a hub hosting international artists, it has become Reykjavik's most established and inspirational artist residency. With locations at Seljavegur in the bustling city center and Korpúlfsstaðir on the serene outskirts, the residency offers diverse environments for artistic work, housing around 70 studios including specialized facilities for Textiles, Ceramics, and Printmaking. This setup fosters a dynamic and collaborative community, enabling artists to engage deeply with their practice. SÍM Residency’s commitment to international exchange is evident in its numerous partnerships across Europe, promoting a global artistic dialogue and collaboration. Participating artists benefit from a range of programs, including public events and solo exhibitions, while also enjoying privileged access to Reykjavik’s prominent cultural institutions through the SÍM Guest Artist card.

Millay Arts

Austerlitz, New York, United States

Millay Arts, founded in 1973 at "Steepletop," the historic estate of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, New York, offers multidisciplinary artist residencies. The nonprofit organization, located in the Hudson Valley, provides a serene environment for artists to deeply engage in their creative process from March through November. It hosts 6-7 artists for two-week or month-long stays, offering fully-subsidized Core Residencies and partially-subsidized Steepletop Residencies, as well as the Wintertide Rustic Retreat. Artists at Millay Arts benefit from the inspirational setting, with idyllic meadows and woods, and proximity to cultural institutions. The Core Residency, selected through a blind jury process, includes a stipend for groceries but not communal meals. The Steepletop Residency allows for advanced scheduling and the Wintertide Retreat offers a self-directed, quiet space for work or rest. Facilities include the Barn, a rustic space with studios and bedrooms, and the Main Building, featuring ADA-design, shared living spaces, and specialized suites.
