La Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon is a 14th-century Carthusian monastery transformed since 1973 into a cultural center dedicated to artist residencies, particularly as the Centre national des écritures du spectacle. It hosts nearly 60 residencies annually for playwrights, theatre companies, research laboratories, and experimental projects in drama writing and performing arts, often opening to the public during rehearsals and events like the Avignon Festival. The program emphasizes national and European scope in theatrical creation, supported by the Ministry of Culture.
