Salmela Art Centre in Mäntyharju, Finland, operates a residency program outside its summer exhibition season, providing free lodging and atelier spaces for 4-8 young artists, primarily painters, musicians, and writers. Started experimentally in 1993, it has hosted over 150-200 artists in peaceful rural surroundings, with each resident having their own studio and bedroom, and shared kitchen facilities. The program offers essential furnishings, bed linen, dishes, and basic atelier equipment like tables, chairs, and easels.
